Suburban Redux, a thought-provoking and entertaining stage play, takes us on a journey through the complexities of suburban life in America. Set in Willow Creek, the play follows the lives of several families as they navigate the challenges and joys of raising a family in the postwar era.
The play opens with the arrival of the Johnson family, newcomers to Willow Creek. Father George is a successful businessman, eager to provide his wife, Mary, and their two children, Bobby and Susie, with the best that life has to offer. Mother Mary is a devoted housewife, determined to create a loving and stable home for her family.
The Johnsons quickly become acquainted with their neighbors, the Smiths. Father Jim is a World War II veteran who works as a mechanic at the local Ford dealership. Mother Betty is a stay-at-home mom who is struggling to adjust to life in the suburbs after the war.
As the play unfolds, we witness the families' struggles and triumphs as they navigate the challenges of suburban life. The Johnsons must contend with George's long working hours and Mary's growing dissatisfaction with her role as a housewife. The Smiths struggle to make ends meet and to come to terms with Jim's PTSD.
Despite the challenges, the families find solace and support in each other. They share meals, play games, and offer a helping hand whenever needed. The children attend the same school and form close friendships that will last a lifetime.
